If a child is clumsy or hesitates while working with brush or pencil, then some finger exercises help.

1
Make rain drops, raise the hands and move pointer and middle finger rhythmically up and down.
2
Climb the mountain by finger movement. Move the pointer and the middle finger up words like the way one climbs steps. Take the hand as high as possible.
3
Tear old news paper and make balls and press the ball as hard as possible.
4
Keep both hands on the wall and spread out the fingers, and push the wall.

These exercises strengthen the small muscles in the hand. These are good exercises even if a child is good in handling brush or pencil. And these are fun exercises too.
