Insects live everywhere except in oceans. A baby insect comes from an egg. The body of the insect is divided into three parts – the head, the thorax and the abdomen and in the middle part, the insect has three pair of legs. The insect has compound eyes. Insects fly.

Some insects eat away people’s cloth, books and carpets. Some eat plants. Some eat both plants at one stage and animals at another stage. The size of the insects varies – some are as small as microscopic and a few are as big as a mouse.

Honeybees live in hives. They have some peculiar behaviour. In summer they fan the entrance of the hive. They dance to indicate where the honey is available. Termites live mostly in Africa. They build very strong and nearly 6 meters tall moulds.
