Talk to the child about a situation - ‘what will you do….?’

Dr. Rick Neel (Professor of Education) called it as ‘Roadblock’. Roadblock is to talk about a hypothetical situation and encourage the child to come out with a solution/s. Each solution follows a counter question.

Aim of the ‘Roadblock’ –

1
To come up with a possible solution to the problem,
2
To think about the situation from different angles.
Caution –
Do not drag the discussion on one topic for too long.
Do not discuss a situation which may frighten the child.
Here are four examples –
1
What will you do if a kitten follows you home?
2
What will you do if by accident you break a window glass at your friend’s place while playing?
3
What will you do if the light goes off when you are alone in your bedroom?
4
What will you do if I do not talk to you for a day?

Benefit of Roadblock: -
1
The child develops creative thinking skills through this activity.
2
The child excels in various academic studies – Science, Language, Arts, and Social studies.
