The preliminary exercises for both drawing and writing are to draw lines on an old news paper. Draw lines freely without paying attention how they go. If colour pencils are used the lines look colourful.

To exercise the small muscle in the finger, tear the news paper. And take the torn paper in the hand press it hard and make a ball. 

Paint on the news paper. Use big flat brush and move the brush freely.

Draw lines on the news paper – horizontal, vertical, slant, curve etc.
